2.5 L4x: Overhang lengths and body lengths
L40 |
= |
Vehicle overhang behind |
Distance from the outermost rear vehicle part to the wheel centre of the last axle. Corresponds to the rear overhang length after DIN 70020. L40 is only calculated for series bridges ex-works, the measure L43 = "Body length series" has to be available. The measure L40 and the presentation are independent of the number of axles. It must not be mistaken for L41 = "Vehicle overhang theoretical behind". |

L41 |
= |
Vehicle overhang theoretical, behind |
Distance from the outmost rear vehicle resp. body part to theoretical rear axle centre, definition see Measures and weights. |

L42 |
= |
Length over all |
Distance from leading edge of the vehicle to trailing edge of the vehicle. Is only calculated, if
- a series bridge exists ex-works.
- it is a tractor-trailer.
The measure L42 and the presentation are independent of the number of axles. |

L43 |
= |
Body length series |
Length of the standard bridge intended ex-works. The measure L43 and the presentation are independent of the number of axles. |

L44 |
= |
Possible body length |
Body length which is possible without regarding the centre of gravity position for payload and body under consideration of L50 = "Start of the body from 1. wheel centre". The possible body length L44 is only calculated, if not existent.
- Standard body length L43
- Tractor-trailer
- Chassis for external finalisation
The result is to round up or down to full 100 mm. The measure L44 and the presentation are independent of the number of axles. |

L45 |
= |
Minimum body length at measure L20 |
Presentable body length at measure L20 = "centre of gravity of the body of". This corresponds to the load up to G70 = "Theoretical permitted front axle load" and load up to G09 = "Permitted total weight". The measure L11 = "Frame overhang behind" is to modify correspondingly. |
The measure L45 is only calculated, if
- it is no tractor-trailer.
- it is no chassis for external finalisation.
Remark:
If the G70 = "Theoretical permitted front axle load" is to low and the G71 = "Theoretical permitted rear axle load" is comparatively high it is possible, that L45 generates a too large L40 = "Vehicle overhang behind". L40 then is possibly larger than L47 = "Permitted body overhang". In this case L45 = "Minimum body length" comes into an impermissible range, because L46 > L45. Within the data information then L45 = 0 is set. |

L46 |
= |
Maximum body length at measure L21 |
Presentable body length at measure L47 = "Permitted body length for permitted vehicle overhang" or L48 = "Maximum body length". The lower value is valid.
If the permitted front axle load is too low and the permitted rear axle load is comparatively high, it is possible, that the maximum body length generates a too large L40 = "Vehicle overhang behind". L40 then is possibly larger than L47 = "Permitted overhang of the body". In this case L46 = "Maximum body length" comes into an impermissible range, because L46 > L45. Within the data information then L46 = 0 is set. If L45 = 0, L46 also becomes 0. |

L48 |
= |
Maximum body length |
Presentable body length at load of the rear axle(s) up to G71 = "Theoretical permitted rear axle load", definition see Measures and weights, and load of the vehicle up to G09 = "Permitted total weight". The measure L11 = "Frame overhang behind" is to modify correspondingly. Restrictions by L49 = "Permitted vehicle overhang" are not considered for the calculation of measure L48. |
The measure L48 is only calculated, if
- it is no tractor-trailer.
- it is no chassis for external finalisation.

L49 |
= |
Permitted theoretical vehicle overhang |
Is specified within the MAN Guide to Fitting Bodies for Trucks. The permitted theoretical vehicle overhang is for
- fourwheel vehicles 65% of the wheelbase L01.
- all other vehicles 70% of the theoretical wheelbase L09.
L49 is measured from the theoretical rear axle centre to outmost trailing edge of the vehicle or the body, depending on which is situated further behind. Definition theoretical rear axle centre see Measures and weights. |
