Observe the guidelines to fitting bodies when making any modification to
a chassis and when fitting a body to a vehicle. The latest and valid
guidelines to fitting bodies may only be found on the Internet at http://www.manted.de/.
Department ESC (address above) is responsible for the guidelines to fitting
bodies. |

Unless stated otherwise, dimensions are in millimeters
(mm) and weights in kilograms (kg). "Weight" or "load"
means the mass of a vehicle or parts of a vehicle in a stationary (steady)
state. Weights, loads and dimensions are determined while a vehicle is
standing, with the wheels pointed straight ahead, no brake operated, and no
gear engaged. All axles on vehicles with liftable
or relievable axles are in the normal position for driving, i.e. lowered or
not relieved. |
|
Equipment other than what is standard can result in a considerable
change in weight. This consequently has an effect on payload. DIN 70020
manufacturing tolerances mean that differences in weight figures of +/-5% are
admissible. Differences for non-toleranced dimensions
admissible by DIN 7168, i.e. socalled
free-size tolerances, do not apply here. The admissible tolerances in each
case are shown in the chassis drawings; MAN works standard M3264 is
applicable. |
|
Vehicles with more than two axles have a theoretical axle center. This means the position of the wheel center that results by combining admissible single axle
loads of an axle group into one axle load. Only on tandem axles with two
identical single axles or single axle loads does the theoretical axle center (wheel center)
correspond to the geometric center of the tandem
axle wheelbase. The theoretical wheelbase is the distance between the
theoretical axle centers. |
Theoretical axle centers:
|
- |
Theoretical front axle
center: |
|
|
This means the position of the front axle center
that results by combining at least two admissible single axle loads of a
front axle group into one front axle load. |
|
- |
Theoretical rear axle center: |
|
|
This means the position of the rear axle center
that results by combining at least two admissible single axle loads of a rear
axle group into one rear axle load. |

Technical identification of the MAN chassis and allocation to a model
range is by the three-digit model number or model code. This is part of the
17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) where it takes the place of the
fourth through sixth digits. For sales purposes there is a basic vehicle
number including the model number in the second through fourth places. The
vehicle number is 7-digit and describes the technical equipment of a vehicle;
it includes the model number in the first through third places, followed by a
4-digit sequential number. The vehicle number appears in the vehicle papers
and on the vehicle's manufacturing plate. It can be quoted instead of the
17-digit vehicle identification number in any technical inquiries concerning
conversion and bodies. The following table shows some examples to illustrate
the use of model number, vehicle identification number, basic vehicle number
and vehicle number. |
